    In 1991, Ava Diamond began her career in helping teens and adults recover from addictions and traumas.  She combined her Masters degree from Columbia University with her naturally intuitive and creative approach to develop clinical and educational expertise that has allowed her to witness success in the lives of  thousands to date.  Ms. Diamond serves as a community educator, professional trainer, and clinical director while maintaining a thriving private practice in New Canaan, CT.

Methods: Nothing "cookie cutter" here...Ms. Diamond creates a treatment approach grounded in clinical experience that works best with her client's needs, learning style, personality for lasting life improvement.  She combines CBT, DBT, motivational therapy, reflective practice, relational theory, systems theory and mindfulness training to engage clients in a process toward relief and personal power.  Ms. Diamond knows people don't want to have  to be in therapy and provides "homework" and email consult free of charge as often as needed between sessions to maximize the therapeutic impact. 

Currently, she is the Clinical Supervisor of a unique intensive in-home substance abuse/parenting program developed by Yale Child Study Center.  She has also established the Diamond Development Series that offers experiential learning opportunities for different audiences.  In addition to her own workshops, Ms. Diamond has collaborated with experts from other arenas to create programs that empower, enlighten, and inspire women, teens, couples, and fitness folks with special focus.   Click on Diamond Development Series tab to find out about upcoming and available workshops.

Ms. Diamond's interest in improving healthcare practice by supporting healthcare providers developed through her hospital experiences, increase in numbers of physicians and nurses seeking treatment for addiction and depression, and trainings in Narrative Medicine.  She co-developed "REST: resiliency education and skills training" for the healthcare provider to alleviate/ward off burnout, improve interdisciplinary communication, and rejuvenate empathic care for patients.  REST has been offered as an elective course at Yale University School of Medicine and in her private practice.

Ms. Diamond has recently combined her passion with her profession.  After over a decade of maintaining an “8 weeks out” condition,  she decided to compete for the first time at age 47.  Within two months of that decision, Ms. Diamond earned her pro card in the WNBF as Ms. Fit Body in June 2011.  She offers a unique fitness  coaching for people who have a difficult time reaching and maintaining their wellness goals.  Click on Fitness Coaching to read about "Excuse Busters" for everyone and "P.R.E.P." for the fitness competitor.

Ms. Diamond brings together expert clinical understanding with keen assessment skills to develop very personalized treatment interventions for her clients.  Her goal is for you to not need therapy for long and she, therefore, provides unique availability between sessions with guided therapeutic exercises.  Ms. Diamond recognizes the power of both empathy and humor in the care of her clients.
